16 Candles

My oldest is 16 today.
I have a 16 year old.
I am the mother of a 16 year old.

No matter how many times I say it, it still sounds so strange to me. How can it be? How can it be when it seems like just yesterday that you had your nights and days mixed up for your first YEAR of life?!? Wasn't it just a short while ago that I would make your chocolate milk in a tupperware sippy cup (b/c they didn't have spillproof cups yet) and you would sit by me on the couch drinking your milk and playing with my hair?

Let me tell y'all about Benjamin. Benjamin loves God, music, his mama, football, girls (Jesus, help me), food, basketball, video games, his buddies, his family, did I say food?!?, animals, and Diet Pepsi. He may even admit to you that he is a mama's boy. But isn't that how it should be?!? I love that you still like to be with us, hang out with us. So many kids your age hate their parents. I love that you look just like Dad. I love how laid back you are, even though it drives me INSANE at times. I love YOU!

You are our firstborn. Dad and I have made, and will continue to make all our mistakes with you. Yet you have handled it quite well. We are very proud of you.

Benjamin, my prayer for you is that you will grow into a God-fearing young man. God has always had his hand on your life, my boy. And I pray that you will continue to let Him mold you and shape you into something even more amazing than you already are.

My boy. 16 today.

At 16 God lets us peek behind the curtain to see the adult nearing completion. Congratulations Cara and Freddy, your project of love is coming along nicely.

well, all i know is that i myself was shocked the day i turned sixteen and will be even more shocked when i turn 17 in two months. if i am this shocked at how old i am getting, i can guess it must be crazy for your son to be that old.

that's really awesome that he still likes to spend time with you. not many of my peers still spend time with their families. which means their parents lose their last few years with them. so it's really cool that you guys have those years.

girls, basketball, food. he sounds ilke a 16-year-old guy to me. :-)

It does rather seem like it was yesterday that I was hosing Ben off on the patio of Smitty's townhouse when we didn't know what else to do. Good times. You guys are too young to have a 16 year old. I'm glad you guys will always be older than me :)
