I think if I have to make 1 more sandwich I am going to SCREAM...and I'm pretty sure my kids feel the same way about eating them. Do any of y'all have any yummy suggestions for my kids' lunches? What do you send your kids for lunch?
my middle daughter has totally gotten into wrap sandwiches... tortilla, deli meat, shredded cheese, lettuce, ranch - sometimes i'll even put leftover chicken (like from a baked chicken or whatever) you know, like chik-fil-a wraps... she loves that.
my older one is into sliced deli meat. some baked lays. sliced strawberries.
such a change from just a couple months ago - peanut butter and jelly, fritos, fruit roll-ups and oreos! eek! what was i thinking??
although they did ask for fruit roll-ups tonight when michael went to the store... and we bought them. as long as it's just not all the time.
oh, we also like those 100 calorie packs... like chips a hoy or whatver. those are yummy!!
can't wait to hear what everyone else is packing!!
oh, and a p.s. when i was a teacher's aide a long time ago (like when i was 18 and thinking i wanted to be a teacher) i was with a kindergarten class and there was a little boy who transferred in from china - like his dad was in the US to get some training or something for a job. one day he totally brought in sushi for lunch!! i remember all the kids were freaking out because it looked so weird.... HA! loved it...
Jonjon went thru a NO sandwich stage. He liked pepperoni and cheese slices w/ crackers. Turkey or Ham roll ups.Chunked up baked chicken with ranch to dip it in. You can even get those throw away tupperwares and do salads with chicken or deli meat. And those mini tupperwares.. PUT PB and Jelly in them send some cracker and a plastic knife.
Or (if there is time). Have the kids draw names and make lunches for each other. It could be one of those lessons in serving others a couple days a week.
chica louise- i got nothin for ya. all i ever got was a ham and cheese sandwich, chips, an oatmeal cream pie, and a capri sun. yep. the same lunch for 13 years. and my mom wonders why i was always so hyper and chubby! hello? look at all that sugar, mom! :-)
Okay, I gotta a couple ideas for you... 1) Apple with pbutter (or some like celery) is one of my favorite meals, I would add some kind of grain filled bar or whatever else the kiddos like....
2) pigs in a blanket are always good (even cold) and you can make a huge batch one night and pack them for two different days.....
3) I also think if you just change the bread to something crazy or special sometimes it makes sandwiches taste better!
4) This just came to me! What about an all snack lunch with one of those protein/yogurt smoothie drinks as the protein?!?!?!
5) Taco salad to go is kind of easy, but a lot of dishes...bag of tortilla chips, container of lettuce, one for taco meat, add some cheese to the lettuce and a thing of hot sauce for dressing.....
Thanks, ladies! Great suggestions--y'all have me off to a good start this week. We're having tacos Tuesday night so maybe I'll try the taco salad thing on Wednesday.
...now if I could just get everybody to like the same things...
One thing I do sometimes (because my older son has access to a microwave) is to send hot pockets with a salad and fruit, or leftover lasagna, or homemade leftover hamburgers, etc. Just depends on what we have and what I can slam in the lunchbox in time for school. My boys like the tortilla rollups as well. I try to keep the "Oscar Mayer Lunchables" to a minimum.... high fat, not very healthy, but hey, now and then a little of that and a little Chef Boy R Dee make him pretty happy.
